Great Britain declared war on Germany. Australia pledged a force of 20,000 to be placed at Britain's disposal.
Prime Minister Andrew Fisher declared that Australia would support Great Britain in the war against Germany
'....to the last man and the last shilling.'

The Australian Red Cross was established to raise funds to purchase comfort supplies for Australian service personnel overseas.
